Specific pregnancy supplements do differ from standard multivitamins – the great news is our high strength Mighty Multivitamin provides an incredible daily support AND offers huge benefits for these nutritionally demanding seasons for a woman!
Let’s look at a few of the things that make it stand out:

  • Higher dosages of key nutrients, particularly some of the B vitamins. With the incredible liposomal formula providing absorption rates of up to 14x higher than a standard supplement, there is no chance of falling short!
  • Folate in the natural form of B9. This is crucial for preventing neural tube defects (see this video on Instagram about how most prenatal supplements include the synthetic form, folic acid, which is now known to cause health issues and pregnancy complications)
  • Choline is often included in pregnancy supplements but rarely in regular multivitamins. This nutrient is essential for neural tube and brain development, and we would not have formulated without it as it’s extremely important for everyone’s brain!
  • Some standard multivitamins include herbal extracts that may not be safe in pregnancy, or effective in general, so we do not include these. Every nutrient is carefully considered in the context of the others, and balanced for optimal synergy in the body, and every ingredient serves a beneficial purpose.
  • Vitamin A is crucial for proper fetal development and the mother’s health during the demands of pregnancy. Excessive Vitamin A in the form of retinol can be a concern in pregnancy, but this is noted as “any supplements containing over 700 micrograms (2,331 IU) per serving”. Our Mighty Multivitamin has 420 micrograms, keeping it far below this amount, even taking into account the excellent absorption rate of the liposomal formula. However, multiple health authorities recommend a Tolerable Upper Intake Level at 10,000 IU during pregnancy. This is extremely high compared to what is in our Mighty Multivitamin (1,399IU), so the amount included is very safe. Most people are not getting enough vitamin A, (people no longer eat nose-to-tail) and a lot of people cannot sufficiently make the conversion of Vitamin A from beta carotene into the form the body is able to use. And like magnesium, a deficiency appears to be more common AND comes with far greater risks, including serious health issues, and even birth defects.

Other important nutrients to include in pregnancy and postpartum/ breastfeeding:

Iodine
This nutrient is very important for fetal brain & nervous system development, essential for the production of thyroid hormones, which regulate fetal brain growth, cognitive function, and metabolism. Deficiency can lead to intellectual disabilities and lower IQ in children.
Important for maternal thyroid function – pregnancy increases iodine needs because the mother’s thyroid works harder to produce enough hormones for both herself and the baby.
Also important after birth especially for breast milk iodine supply. After birth, iodine is vital for newborn brain and nervous system development. Breastfeeding mothers need more iodine to ensure their baby gets enough through breast milk.
We recommend an iodine supplement called Lugols Iodine, available here.

Omega 3
In particular, DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), are recommended during pregnancy because they are essential for fetal brain, eye, and nervous system development. DHA is a key structural component of the brain and retina, supporting cognitive function and visual acuity. Omega-3s also help reduce the risk of preterm birth, support a healthy birth weight, and may lower the chance of maternal depression. Since the body cannot produce sufficient amounts of DHA and EPA on its own, they must be obtained from diet (e.g., oily fish, flaxseeds) or supplements, with health organizations recommending 200–300 mg of DHA per day during pregnancy. Magnesium
A pregnant ladies best friend and absolutely essential during pregnancy and breastfeeding because it supports muscle relaxation, nerve function, and bone development for both mother and baby. It helps prevent leg cramps, high blood pressure (preeclampsia), and constipation, common pregnancy discomforts. Magnesium also plays a role in regulating blood sugar levels and may reduce the risk of gestational diabetes.
During breastfeeding, it supports maternal recovery and ensures adequate levels for the baby’s bone and nervous system development. Since mineral needs, particularly magnesium, increase during pregnancy, supplementation is an incredible and sometimes vital support. Read more about the importance of this master mineral in this blog post. Shop our liposomal Mighty Magnesium.

Vitamin C
Vitamin C is highly beneficial during pregnancy because it supports the immune system, collagen production, and the absorption and regulation of iron.
It helps the body absorb non-heme iron (from plant-based sources and supplements) reducing the risk of anaemia, which is common in pregnancy. As a powerful antioxidant, vitamin C also protects cells from oxidative stress and supports the baby’s skin, bones, and connective tissue development. Since the body cannot produce or store vitamin C, getting optimal amounts from diet alone can be very difficult, so supplementing is a huge support here too. The best liposomal Vitamin C can be purchased here.
